Soul Gardening holds space for all women to celebrate and explore the different expressions of the life of a woman, including but not limited to, motherhood. We invite all women of good will to read, contribute, and be a part of this community. While this is a Catholic space, this is an open door of hospitality which is at the heart of Woman.

OUR PURPOSE

Published under the patronage of our Lady of Nazareth, Soul Gardening Journal is crafted to express the beauty of womanhood, the sacredness to be found in the everyday, and the power of making our lives a living prayer. Written by women, for women, we strive towards a more unplugged and intentional life in the heart of the Incarnation.

We welcome your reflections, prose, projects, recipes, poems, prayers or articles for print consideration.

Submission Guidelines

  • Please aim for 500 – 1500 words. We encourage short and strong pieces.

  • We are always crafting future issues so we love pieces that we can file away for a particular season, be it winter, spring, summer or fall, or a liturgically oriented piece that we can place into an appropriate liturgical season. For instance, a Lenten piece for a spring issue, a piece on your Candlemas traditions for a late winter issue, or a harvest recipe for summer.

  • We are always looking to fill our regular and pop-up columns with submissions from our readers! Choose a column category that inspires you from this list:

    • Dust Jacket: children and adult book reviews

    • In the Kitchen: your original or adapted family recipes with a personal writeup and introduction

    • Homespun: simple crafts with drawings

    • Stage & Gallery: theater, fine arts

    • From the Cloth: a column by our beloved priests

    • Icon Kids: for the children

    • Cool Streams: music to stream, with folk roots

    • The Conservatory: pieces on classical music

  • Contributions must be original / previously unpublished; if you have your own publication or website, please wait to post until after the journal has been printed/delivered and then direct your readers to the journal name and website when you self-publish on your own platforms.

  • Please include with your submission an author’s bio for the end of your piece, with fun or interesting facts about you. These are meant to give the reader a window into your world, adding some flair, humor, and a personal touch to the journal; they are generally 1-3 sentences long. Please at least include where you live and your first and last name (if desired).

  • If we decide to publish your piece, you will receive an email before the journal goes to print, with an invitation to review our edits. We will be in touch with any questions as we work your piece through our editing process, and you will have the opportunity to review and make small changes to your piece before it goes to print. We all volunteer our time to this journal, so try to keep the work as simple as streamlined as possible.

    All accepted submissions become shared property of Soul Gardening Journal who retain the rights to print and reprint content at will.
